ElderWood opens first facility in Rochester area

PENFIELD, NY – ElderWood Senior Care, an award-winning leader in senior living residences in Western and Central New York, today opened its first facility in the Rochester market, adding 75 jobs and a new source of assisted living to the Penfield area.

“A year after we broke ground, we’re pleased to open this new assisted living facility in Penfield,” said Robert Chur, president of ElderWood Senior Care. “We’ve received great support and partnership from our neighbors and the Rochester business community and we’re excited about this new project that features independent apartments and assisted living options. We look forward to meeting the residents who will call our Penfield facility home.”

Located at Route 250 and Penbrooke Road in Penfield, the new facility adds 75 jobs in Monroe County including state-certified home health aides, licensed practical nurses, housekeepers, dining staff, receptionists, dishwashers and cooks.

The Penfield assisted living residence offers 90 private apartments, including 52 one-bedroom apartments, six two-bedroom units, and 32 studios. The facility is licensed under the New York State Assisted Living Program (ALP) which is available to qualifying seniors who need regular assistance. Qualified veterans and their spouses can save significantly with the federally funded “Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension” program.

Most recently, ElderWood received the “Business of the Month” award from the Penfield Chamber of Commerce.

“Receiving the ‘Business of the Month’ award from the Penfield community is a tremendous honor,” said Bonnie Goodwin, ElderWood at Penfield building administrator. “We will continue to build upon the strong reputation we’ve begun to develop with them for years to come.”

With more than 3,000 staff members in 17 other locations in Erie, Niagara, Onondaga and Tioga counties, expansion into the Rochester region reinforces ElderWood as one of New York State’s leaders in senior living facilities.

In 2009, ElderWood Senior Care became the first assisted living facility provider in New York State to receive the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) National Quality Awards. All five of ElderWood’s assisted living residences including Glenwood, Maplewood, Rosewood, Tioga and Westwood succeeded in earning Bronze honors in this inaugural competition. The awards recognize the hard work and commitment of staff members at each of the residences and last year marks the first instance that assisted living facilities became eligible to receive the honor.
