ElderWood Senior Care offers the Household
Sharps Disposal Program in order to provide a safe and convenient
way for individuals in the community to properly dispose of potentially
dangerous medical waste. The program allows individuals to bring
medical "sharps" -
syringes, needles and lancets used for administering medication in
private households - to any ElderWood health care facility for disposal.
There is no fee, but participants must follow some simple rules to
ensure the safety of everyone involved.
- Sharps should be placed in a shatter proof, leak proof and puncture
resistant container with a tight fitting screw top, such as a plastic
soda bottle or liquid laundry detergent container. Glass containers
and coffee cans will not be accepted.
- The container should be labeled clearly
by writing "Contains
Sharps" directly on the container or on masking tape with a waterproof
marker.
- The cap should be screwed tightly and sealed with heavy duty
tape to avoid spillage.
Properly prepared containers may be dropped off between 9
a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, to the reception desk at any ElderWood
location.
